If your desire is to work out at home with or without my training recommendations, you will need certain pieces of equipment.
Most of the items discussed below are what I have, or similar to, the equipment I have in my own garage gym. I have also listed a few items that I would also love to have, but currently lack the space to include them.
All of these items will be beneficial to your strength and fitness training.
Cap Barbell Olympic Bumper Weight Set
The most important piece of equipment you will need is a barbell and weight plates.
If you are training at home, I recommend this Cap Barbell Olympic Bumper weight set. This will allow you to start out with low weight on the deadlift, as all of the plates have the same height.
The barbell itself is 45 pounds.
You can learn more about this weight set on Amazon here… Cap Barbell.

Power Rack with Pulley System
Next up, you will need a power rack with a pulley system used.
A power rack is essential for people who train at home so you can safely squat and bench press inside the rack with the use of safety bars.
A pulley system is needed for training the lats, particularly if you cannot do a pull-up or chin-up.
The unit seen to the right is cost effective and can be found on Amazon here… Power Rack.

Bowflex Adjustable Dumbbells
Since I am low on space in my garage gym, I don’t have room for a complete set of dumbbells up to at least 50 pounds.
The Bowflex Selectech Adjustable dumbbells have been part of my home gym since 2012, and they have held up great!
These dumbbells are adjustable from 5 to 52.5 pounds in 2.5 pound increments up to 25 pounds, and then increments of 5 pounds from 25 to 50, and then ending at 52.5 pounds.
I highly recommend. You can check them out on Amazon here… Bowflex Adjustable Dumbbells.

Marcy Flat Weight Bench
For bench pressing, I recommend a flat bench rather than an adjustable bench for proper positioning.
I recommend the bench seen on the right which you can find on Amazon here… Marcy Flat Bench.

Nordic Weightlifting Shoes
If you are going to get serious about your strength training, you need weightlifting shoes to provide a solid platform when you are squatting, deadlifting and pressing overhead.
I own a pair of Nordic weightlifting shoes similar to those seen to the right and they have worked great for me.
You can find them on Amazon here… Nordic shoes.

Starting Strength Weightlifting Belt
Another item for the serious strength trainee is the weight belt.
Starting Strength had this belt designed particularly for them and their clients, so I highly recommend.
You can find it on Amazon here… Starting Strength belt.
