The chip shot is a relatively easy shot to learn, and it is one shot that I recommend that all new golfers focus on when the start to learn golf.

There are a couple reasons I like to teach new golfers the appropriate technique for chips shots.

First, it helps them learn how to make appropriate contact with the golf ball.  To hit the shot properly, you must strike the ball with a DESCENDING blow.

Learning to strike the ball with a descending blow is also critical to learning the full swing.

Secondly, learning how to hit these shots early on will enable the new golfer to develop some touch and feel around the greens.

A good short game will help any golfer shave strokes off their score. In the video below, I cover the technique for the basic chip shot.
